A formidable squad will race the first ever Hammer Series event in the Netherlands.
Fernando Gaviria, who currently holds the maglia rosa at the 100th edition of the Giro d'Italia after winning stage 3 in Cagliari on Sunday, after the Quick-Step Floors riders teamed up to force a split on a windy finish, will be one of our seven riders for the first Hammer Series event, which will take place next month, in the Netherlands.
"We showed amazing team work to earn the maglia rosa on Sunday and we'll need to do the same at Hammer Series to have a chance of winning", said the young Colombian, who so far this season has racked up five victories.
Belgian Champion Philippe Gilbert, who was on sparkling form during Spring Classics season, winning Ronde van Vlaanderen and Amstel Gold Race, Zdenek Stybar, runner-up at Paris-Roubaix and a key player in the team's outstanding early-season results, Jack Bauer, Rémi Cavagna, Tim Declercq and Maximilian Schachmann will also make up the seven-man squad to represent Quick-Step Floors at the inaugural Hammer Series festival at Sportzone Limburg in Sittard between 1-4 June.
"For once it's the whole team and not an individual rider who will be recognised at Hammer Series. That's really interesting for the riders, and it will be for the fans too. With the Hammer Climb, Hammer Sprint and Hammer Chase, every type of rider will be important. It's a step forward for cycling, it's going to be interesting to see what happens and we are really excited to be part of the event", said Gilbert, one of the tenth different Quick-Step Floors riders to notch a victory this season.
