Tim was one of the main favorites for victory at the Copenhagen Sprint, but a late crash ruined his chances of a sixth victory this season.
The former European Champion benefitted from a superb job of his Soudal Quick-Step teammates, who joined efforts with other squads to control a four-man breakaway and bring it within reach on the local laps through the streets of the Danish capital, but a crash that took place inside 20 kilometers to go took him out of contention.
The rain made the roads slippery, and when several riders hit the ground, the peloton split into two groups, and Tim found himself blocked. Eventually, he made it back to the second group, where Soudal Quick-Step did their best to reduce the gap, but there was nothing else to be done in the few kilometers left to the finish and they concluded around twenty seconds behind the group from where Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) took the victory.
Casper Pedersen concluded the day as the first Soudal Quick-Step rider across the line, just outside the top twenty.
