The 28-year-old came close to his maiden victory of the season.
Alberto Dainese made his first appearance for The Wolfpack since June’s National Championships, and the Italian was in the spotlight at the end of the stage that concluded in Bourg-en Bresse, the city where our team took a memorable victory from the breakaway at the 2023 Tour de France.
It was a pretty straightforward route, almost flat and with non-technical roads that made it easy for the peloton to bring back the two different leading groups that tried their luck Tuesday afternoon. Soudal Quick-Step was one of the teams that set the tempo at the front of the bunch, reeling in the escapees and setting Alberto Dainese up for the mass gallop.
The Italian showed a good turn of speed as he took his first podium of the season, just behind Noah Hobbs (EF Education - EasyPost) and will wear the points jersey on Wednesday, when the terrain favoring the climbers will reshuffle the general classification.
