Another great day for Soudal Quick-Step U19.
René Messely signed off our junior team’s ninth victory of the season, at the West Flanders Provincial Championships ITT. The talented Belgian came at the start as one of the pre-race favourites and lived up to the expectations, taking a clear victory in Ruddervoorde - where the event was held - and successfully defending his title.
What made his victory even more impressive was the fact it came after the 18-year-old Belgian recorded an average speed of 49.83km/h, going more than two kilometers faster than last season, when he became ITT Provincial Champion for the first time.
“This was my third time trial of the year, after the ones at the Guido Reybrouck Classic and STER Van Zuid Limburg, but at this Provincial Championship time trial I felt my best. I managed to keep a consistent pace throughout the entire race and never slowed down. I’m happy with my second provincial title in a row. Now I’ll give everything on Saturday at the Chrono Challenge in Poperinge, and then on May 1st, at the Belgian Championship, which is one of my most important goals of the year”, said René after his win.
