Soudal Quick-Step’s 33-year-old extended his lead in the points classification.
Tim Merlier became the first rider to conclude on the podium in three different stages at this year’s Belgium Tour, after an incredibly tight finish in Aarschot, where the fast men got their last opportunity of this edition.
Victorious on stage two in Knokke-Heist, the Belgian produced another strong sprint in the hectic finale of Saturday, only a few centimeters separating him from the win - just like on the opening day - which this time went to Olav Kooij (Decathlon CMA CGM). Following this podium, Tim extended his lead in the points standings, which he is now favorite to win with just one stage to go.
On Sunday, the race will be decided, especially as the gaps between the favorites aren’t big at the moment. Hills, cobbles, and the three sprints of the Golden Kilometer - where many bonus seconds will be in play - promise to have a big impact on the way the general classification of this 95th edition will look.
