Tim Merlier leads The Wolfpack at this week’s race.
Wednesday schedules the 79th edition of Omloop van het Houtland, a flat 189.6km one-day race taking place between Zedelgem and Lichtervelde. It’s one of the many Belgian events that our team has won multiple times, most recently last year, when Tim Merlier emerged victorious from a reduced peloton.
The Belgian, who has amassed eleven wins since the start of the season, will try to make it two in a row in Lichtervelde, with the support of a strong squad consisting of Ayco Bastiaens, Cériel Desal, former Belgian Champion Yves Lampaert, Laurenz Rex, Bert Van Lerberghe, and Warre Vangheluwe.
“Omloop van het Houtland is a typical Belgian race. On Wednesday there won’t be any wind, which points to a mass gallop, and we are motivated to deliver Tim in a good position from where he can fight for victory. He is in good shape, as shown in Koolskamp, and can rely on a solid team to help him there”, explained Soudal Quick-Step sports director Wilfried Peeters.
