Paul Magnier, Laurenz Rex and Maximilian Schachmann will all pin on a number next week.
From 19 to 23 August, Germany’s most important stage race takes place over five days that will offer different types of riders the chance to shine and fight for a stage win or the general classification. The first test is set to come on the inaugural day, when a short prologue featuring a short climb and some tight, fast corners will create the first gaps of the week.
With the exception of stage two, which should have the fast men as the main protagonists, all the other road stages comprise numerous hills, plenty of elevation gain, some grueling slopes and technical roads that are sure to seriously challenge those aiming for a good result in the overall standings of this 40th edition that concludes in Heilbronn.
Our team that will travel to Germany consists of six riders: Pascal Eenkhoorn, Giro d’Italia maglia ciclamino winner Paul Magnier, Andrea Raccagni, Laurenz Rex - making his first stage race appearance since Tirreno-Adriatico - Maximilian Schachmann, a stage victor here for The Wolfpack eight years ago, and Dries Van Gestel.
The Deutschland Tour is a demanding race, but we are ready for it.
“We want to take it one day at a time and show our motivation and hunger for good results, and at the same time, seize every opportunity we will get there. It’s a strong squad that we’re taking to the start, a team that has more than one card to play, and this makes us confident we can have a good week there”, said Soudal Quick-Step sports director Davide Bramati.
