Soudal Quick-Step’s 23-year-old went one place better than last season in the ITT.
Martin Svrcek confirmed the strong form he has been displaying lately by finishing runner-up at the National Championships in the time trial race.
Held in Unicov, over a distance of 48.1 kilometers, it was the longest time trial race in the ten years, and Svrcek impressed with the way he kept the speed and produced a strong effort for almost one hour. For Martin, it was the third medal of his career at the Nationals, after last season’s bronze in the ITT and silver in the road race, and a result that gave him an important confidence-boost.
“I didn’t have my best day, but remained focused on my aero position and on doing a good race, because I had the confidence I could finish on the podium. I did my best and at the end of the day I’m happy I could be in the top three and get a better result than last year”, said Martin, who will be in action also on Sunday, when the road race taking place is scheduled.
