The 25-year-old was one of the race’s main protagonists.
One of the season’s final kermesses, Zwevezele Koers got off to a fast and furious start Friday afternoon, as twenty riders broke away and formed a strong leading group that worked well together and built a solid gap on the chasers.
Our team was there with four men, including Warre Vangheluwe, who launched a big attack on the last lap, an acceleration to which only a handful of riders could react. The Belgian sparred no effort as he tried again to drop the others in the closing kilometers, but in the end he had to be content with second place, behind Lionel Taminiaux (Lotto Intermarche). Jasper Stuyven made it two Soudal Quick-Step riders in the top ten, after concluding the race in fifth place.
It was hard and really fast today.
“We had the numbers in the breakaway and in the last part of the race I attacked and ended up in a six-man group. The finale was a bit tactical, but I raced on my instinct. I did my best to take the win, but was beaten by a better rider. I’m satisfied with the legs I had and I’m now looking forward to Saturday’s Grand Prix Cerami”, Warre explained at the finish.
