The Belgian is our best-placed rider on the general classification of the French race.
One of the most successful juniors of the season, Vic De Smet powered to his eighth victory since the start of the team, once again confirming his prowess against the clock. It happened on the first half-stage of the Boucle de l’Oise day two, a 15km individual time trial held on the flat roads around Bresles.
The 17-year-old Belgian, winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège Junior this season, was in stellar form Sunday morning and gave absolutely no chance to his opponents. An average speed of 49.46km/h saw De Smet finish at the top of the leaderboard for ten seconds and move just outside the podium on the general classification ahead of the race’s final stage.
“It was a nice time trial, featuring long, straight roads, where I could plan my effort really well, keep the speed and take this win. I love time trials and I’m glad I could bring this one home for the team. There’s still one stage left in the afternoon and we’re motivated to do our best to get a good result also in the overall standings”, Vic explained after the podium ceremony.
