Young Belgian celebrates his tenth win of the year at one of the most important races of the calendar.

Vic De Smet enjoyed a great day at the office on the last stage of the Giro della Lunigiana, taking the victory in Casano di Luni and securing his place in the final top three of this 50th edition. The 17-year-old rider of Soudal Quick-Step U19, who competed in Italy together with the Belgian National team, emerged as the fastest from a reduced bunch at the end of a selective day that took in four classified climbs.

It was Vic’s tenth success of the season, one which helped him clinch two distinctive jerseys: one for winning the points classification and the other for topping the best young rider standings. At the same time, the week he had in Giro della Lunigiana, where he raced after a solid display at the  Grand Prix Rüebliland, served as a big confidence-boost before travelling to Canada for the World Championships.

“I’m happy to conclude the week with a stage victory and with a place on the overall podium of the race. It was a demanding event, but I felt good from the beginning and gave my best in every stage. The two jerseys I took home are a nice bonus, one that rounded out a strong week”, Vic said after the finish.
