Evenepoel kleurt finale openingsrit Paris-Nice
Remco Evenepoel verspilde geen tijd om zijn aanwezigheid te laten gelden in de eerste grote rittenkoers van het seizoen. In de laatste 20 kilometer van de openingsrit van Paris-Nice stak de Belgisch kampioen zijn neus aan het venster. Bij de tussensprint in Montainville pakte Evenepoel 4 bonificatieseconden en sloeg en passant een gaatje.
Evenepoel besloot door te zetten en kreeg een kleine groep met zich mee. Aan de voet van de laatste klim kwam het peloton echter terug. Na wat schermutselingen op die klim ontstonden wat gaatjes, maar In de afdaling liep alles samen.
In de sprint van een uitgedund peloton was Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) de beste. Yves Lampaert eindigde net buiten de top-10 als eerste Soudal Quick-Step renner. In het klassement staat Evenepoel dankzij de bonificatieseconden op een vijfde plek.
