Zdenek Stybar admitted shortly after his seventh place finish at Superstige Cyclo-Cross at Hoogstraten on Sunday that other factors contributed to his performance for Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team. "Pity I didn't made the cherry on the cake to @opqscyclingteam but not yet recovered from illness," Stybar said in a post race tweet. "Anyway not an excuse." Stybar fell sick with fever the night before the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championship last weekend, and was bed ridden during the week. That didn't stop Stybar from a 2nd place finish at GVA Trophy Lille on Saturday, despite acknowledging his "bad legs" during the race. Stybar remained in a front group for much of the race, but a little more than 42 minutes into the race a trio of riders escaped. They never lost their gap.
Tom Meeusen (BEL) ended up winning, with Kevin Pauwels (BEL) second and Sven Nys (BEL) third.
