Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Peter Velits was the top finisher in a hectic 180.5km Stage 8 of Tour de Suisse on Saturday, with the peloton completely strung out going into the sprint finale, shedding riders with each passing kilometer.
Cannondale Pro Cycling Team rider Peter Sagan had ideal position in the bunch sprint, along with BMC Racing Team rider and UCI World Champion Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team). Sagan's power proved too much for the field, winning the stage. Daniele Bennati (Team Saxo-Tinkoff) was 2nd, Gilbert 3rd. Velits made sure he stayed with the group, as the climbing in the final kilometers dropped many riders from contention.
Mathias Frank (BMC Racing Team) stayed near the front and retained the leader's jersey.
OPQS looks next to a final 26.8km time trial on Sunday.
