In an exciting finale, Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team track star Iljo Keisse and teammate Marc Hester won the 50th edition of 6-Days Copenhagen by six points on Tuesday. "This season has been one of my best so far," said Keisse. "I've won four Six-Day (Amsterdam, Grenoble, Zurich, Copenhagen) with four different partners and the European Championship with De Ketele and I've made it to the podium three times in three different races. It's been a fantastic season." Keisse and Hester stormed back after trailing by 22, by winning the super sprint in the final chase. Alex Rasmussen and Michael Morkov had the 22 point lead at the time.
Keisse and Hester were in first place on night four, but slipped to second place on night five to Rasmussen and Morkov, trailing by four points.
Keisse is now ranked at the top of the world track rankings.
After the track season Keisse is preparing for the road racing season with the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team.
"It's going to be a very important season on the road for me" said Keisse. "It's going to take some time now to find the right pedal rhythm on the road after months of specific training for the track, but I'm ready and really looking forward to the road races. Normally I should start off in the GP Samyn and then ride in the Driedaagse Van West Vlaanderen. We'll see, it depends on how I'll be pedalling."
Keisse then reflected on the next track season. "The track season isn't very long so I think I'll be able to combine the two specialties, road and track. I'll think about that next winter. Now I really want to concentrate on the road and understand what I can actually give to my team."
