Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Gianni Meersman — who was part of the breakaway that made it to the finish, but was unable to maintain contact — was the top finisher for the team in the 169km 13th Stage of La Vuelta a España on Friday.
Meersman finished 63rd.
Warren Barguil (Argos-Shimano) attacked what was left of the breakaway, which was about 8 riders, inside the final kilometer. His attack caught the group by surprise and he was able to win solo with a considerable gap in a short distance. Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2R - La Mondiale) was 2nd, and Belkin Pro Cycling Team rider Bauke Mollema was 3rd. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team) retained the race lead.
OPQS looks next to a 155.7km stage 14 in the high mountains on Saturday.
