Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Pieter Serry made it into an early, strong breakaway in the 146.8km Stage 16 of La Vuelta a España on Monday. However, the peloton was not satisfied with the riders ahead, and brought them back.
Instead, it was another group of riders who stayed away and decided the stage. Warren Barguil (Argos-Shimano) went solo on the final, Category 1 climb to the finish, but Rigoberto Uran (Sky ProCycling) bridged to him within the final kilometer. Those two battled to the last centimeter for the stage victory. Barguil won in a photo finish.
Bartosz Huzarski (Team NetApp-Endura) was 3rd. Gianni Meersman was the top finisher for OPQS, in 48th place.
OPQS looks next to a rest day tomorrow.
