Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Matteo Trentin finished 17th in 205.7km, 17-lap Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal on Sunday. Trentin was always in good position throughout the race, keeping himself near the front in case of a sprint finale.
However, a series of attacks on the last lap prevented such a finish. Robert Gesink (Belkin ProCycling) countered when Michael Albasini (ORICA-GreenEDGE) was caught, but he was brought back. Chris Froome (Sky ProCycling) then attacked on a descent 8km from the finish, but that move also was unsuccessful. Gesink attacked once again wih 6.6km to go, but Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Sharp) bridged and went over the top of him briefly. Finally, the winning move was by Peter Sagan (Cannondale ProCycling), who caught and dropped Hesjedal on an uphill section. Sagan went into the final 500m with a 10" advantage on a small chase group of riders (no OPQS), and went on to win solo. Simone Ponzi (Astana) was 2nd, and Hesjedal 3rd.
Trentin finished 17th in the group of riders behind the first chasers.
Michal Kwiatkowski crashed with six laps to go on a 180-degree turn at the 500m mark with several other riders, and he abandoned. He has superficial wounds on his right hip and elbow.
