Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Michal Kwiatkowski finished 5th in the 166.5km 2nd Stage of Tour de Romandie on Thursday.
OPQS worked hard on the front all day to ensure Kwiatkowski had a chance to protect his yellow jersey, as he had a small time gap to others below him in the GC.
The race came back together with 3km to go, and that was when Tony Martin took the Polish Champion with him to the front until the final few hundred meeters of the race.
Kwiatkowski launched first from the front, but it was Michael Albasini (ORICA-GreenEDGE) who won the stage, with Tony Hurel (Team Europcar) placing 2nd and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek Factory Racing) placing 3rd.
Due to the victory, Albasini now wears the yellow jersey with a 5" advantage over the 23-year-old Polish Champion. Tony Martin is in 7th, 14" back from the race lead.
OPQS looks next to 180.2km Stage 3, which could be a real test for the GC contenders. There are four Category 1 climbs to crest. However, the race descends from the final climb into a flat finale.
