Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Gianni Meersman placed 3rd in the 183.9km Ster ZLM Toer GP Jan van Heeswijk Stage 2 on Thursday, as the race ended in a bunch sprint despite some splits forming in the field in the final kilometers.
Marcel Kittel (Giant-Shimano) won the race, with Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) placing 2nd.
The race initially came back together with 10km to go, but within the final five kilometers the race became animated once again.
OPQS looks next to 190.5km Stage 3 on Friday. The stage features ascents of the Cauberg and Bemelerberg. The finish is uphill.
