Etixx - Quick-Step rider Rigoberto Uran finished 7th on the Category summit finale of Giro d'Italia Stage 8 on Saturday. The Colombian rider finished out of a group including Richie Porte (Team Sky), Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo), and Fabio Aru (Astana). That group crossed the line 35" down on solo stage winner Beñat Intxausti (Movistar) at the summit of Campitello Matese.

Mikel Landa (Astana) was 2nd after attacking out of the GC group. Sebastien Reichenbach (IAM Cycling) finished 3rd from the original breakaway that also included Intxausti.

The action for the GC group began with Aru attacking inside 5km to go. Uran had David De La Cruz with him prior that acceleration, with the gap at 2'19" to the peloton. Contador, Porte, Uran, and Landa all went with Aru. Landa attacked with about 4.4km to go, and several riders were able to bridge to the select GC contenders out of what was left of the peloton. The group continued to dwindle in number until the finish line.

Uran is now 8th place in the overall classification, 1'24" down on race leader Contador.

Etixx - Quick-Step looks next to 215km Stage 9 on Sunday, from Beneveto to San Georgio del Sannio. The entire profile is undulating, with two Category 2 climbs. There is also an uphill going into the finish.
