The three-time winner of the race and his teammate Yoeri Havik took an impressive victory on the opening night of the event.

Niki Terpstra enjoyed an excellent start at the 34th running of the Six Days of Rotterdam. Together with his teammate Yoeri Havik, the 31-year-old Dutch rider of Etixx – Quick-Step won the inaugural race of the competition which takes place in the Ahoy arena – the 100-lap Madison – before placing in the team elimination race less than an hour later.

"We're on the right track after the first day. The form is there, the motivation is strong, and the results we had give us confidence for what's to come later in the week", said Terpstra, who lies in fourth place, just a couple of points behind the leaders of the general classification. He and Havik are one of the six teams who haven't been lapped on the first day of the race.
