The experienced Belgian proved once again why he is one of the best riders in the world on the velodrome, notching up his 26th Six Day win.
What a way for Iljo Keisse to start the season! The 34-year-old rider of Quick-Step Floors Cycling Team came out on top this week at the Six Days of Bremen, an event created in 1910, which he was racing for the seventh time in his career. Keisse, who teamed up with Marcel Kalz, started the final day in first place, after a solid and convincing display throughout the week, and thanks to the hefty advantage the two of them built in the previous days, their position wasn't threatened in any moment whatsoever.
Tuesday night, the pair witnessed several attempts of their rivals to dislodge them from the top, but Iljo and Marcel – who were racing a six day event for the first time together – overcame all the attacks and grabbed the victory, crowning themselves champions in the ÖVB Arena. For Keisse, one of the most decorated riders of the past decade on the velodrome, this was his second win in Bremen (following the one of 2008, when he paired with another German, Robert Bartko) and his 26th in a Six Day race.
