Dario Cataldo, as he has been for multiple stages, was the top finisher in both the stage and general classification at Stage 7 of Volta a Catalunya on Sunday.
In a mass sprint that came down to about 40 riders, Cataldo finished 13th in the 119.8km stage from Badalona to Barcelona. Cataldo was seen at the front of the charging peloton with 6km to go, and then with about 2km to go, when Samuel Sanchez (Euskatel-Euskadi) attacked, he followed the wheel of Daniel Martin (Garmin-Barracuda) and kept himself in position for a potential podium finish in both the stage andc the GC. Unfortnately, it wasn't to be, as Julien Simon (Saur-Sojasun) won the sprint, with Francesco Gavazzi (Astana) taking 2nd and Damiano Cunego (Lampre-ISD) finishing 3rd.
Cataldo still finished in the top 10 of the GC, taking 9th (+1'32").
