After the 32nd World Tour event of the season, Quick-Step Floors is sure of topping the rankings for the 23rd consecutive week.
The small, narrow and twisty roads of northern France welcomed the riders on Sunday afternoon for another edition of the Bretagne Classic (247.1 kilometers). A seven-man breakaway took center stage in the first part of the day, building an eight-minute advantage over the peloton, which began the real chase only with 120 kilometers to go.
In the final two hours of racing, Quick-Step Floors moved with Dries Devenyns and Petr Vakoč, under their impetus also other riders giving it a shot from the bunch and going to the attack. The newly-formed group quickly put 40 seconds between them and the chasers, while making contact with the original breakaway. Thanks to some long pulls of the Quick-Step Floors boys, they managed to stay in the lead until the closing 20 kilometers, when the peloton overhauled them and the reset button was pushed.
This time, eight men took off, Pieter Serry being one of them, and looked poised to give the pack the slip as in the last ten kilometers they had almost 35 seconds in hand. But a series of attacks from behind, followed by a strong chase, brought Pieter's group back, and the race came down to a reduced bunch sprint, won by Elia Viviani (Team Sky) over Alexander Kristoff (Katusha-Alpecin) and Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain-Merida).
Czech Champion Zdenek Stybar was Quick-Step Floors' best-placed rider at the 81st Bretagne Classic – Ouest-France, a race after which our team continues to lead the World Tour classification, having a 700-point cushion over the next outfit in the standings.
