Quick-Step Floors have two riders in the top 10 overall at the World Tour race.
Six days from his impressive ride at the European Championships, which netted him a bronze medal in the 45.7km-long individual time trial, Maximilian Schachmann finished fifth at the BinckBank Tour's sole stage against the clock, an impressive result considering the quality time trialing field at the seven-day race, where Quick-Step Floors have amassed a staggering 17 stage victories since 2003.
One of the team's cards for the general classification at the BinckBank Tour, Max sits in the same position in the overall standings, just a handful of seconds ahead of former ITT National Champion Yves Lampaert, who is tenth following the Venray stage. After powering to an emphatic win in Bolsward, Fabio Jakobsen knew his chances of retaining the lead were slim, but still rode a solid race against the clock – averaging almost 49km/h – and on Wednesday will wear the points jersey.
Stage 3 will cross the border and travel over 173.9 kilometers, from Aalter to Antwerp, the most populous city of Belgium and home to one of the biggest ports in the world. There, the sprinters are expected to come again to the fore and fight for victory.
