Iljo Keisse and Elia Viviani were unstoppable on the fourth night of the Six Days of Gent, the start of which found them in fourth place overall. For the experienced duo, the most important thing was to take back the lap that was separating them from the teams on the podium, and Keisse and Viviani didn't disappoint, treating the fans in the Kuipke to a fantastic spectacle that got them a huge round of applause and cheers.
Seventh victory of the week for the Deceuninck – Quick-Step Team came courtesy of Elia Viviani in the team elimination race, where the 29-year-old Italian's cunning display helped him outgun all his rivals and gain 20 important points in the overall standings, which the squad added to the ones obtained in the points race and Derny.
But it was the first Madison race that saw home darling Iljo Keisse and Elia Viviani make significant inroads in the general classification, thanks to a phenomenal effort and flawless tactic at the end of which Iljo celebrated arms aloft as he crossed the line. Victorious in the leg-sapping race that didn't offer any moment of respite, Iljo and Elia are now in the driving seat at the Six Days of Gent, and even though their margin is a slim one, the next two days will see them fight hard to cement their position and clinch the overall title.
