Our outfit enjoyed a record-breaking year, with 73 UCI wins brought by 14 riders between the months of January and October. It was a dazzling season, which ended with the World Tour Team Classification winner trophy being awarded to our squad.
2018 was the year of the Quick-Step Floors wolves, who howled their way over the line victorious dozens of times, enjoying a huge rate of success (on average, a win every five days) and making headlines on a weekly basis, not only as a result of this stunning performance which helped the team secure its place at the top of the victory classification for the seventh consecutive year, but also thanks to the exceptional mentality, attitude and unity that in the end made all these things possible.
In what was the most prolific season in the outfit’s history, Quick-Step Floors scooped 73 victories in 22 different countries across five continents. Of these wins, 37 were nabbed on the World Tour and saw our team beat the previous record, set in 2017. A superb consistency and a startling run of results throughout a long and intense year, which were capped off at the UCI Gala, where our riders picked up the World Tour Team Classification victor trophy.
“It’s truly extraordinary what we achieved in 2018 – a year like no other – and the whole squad is part of this brilliant success and deserves congratulations. It’s a fantastic proof of what you can accomplish through team spirit, hard work and dedication from everybody involved and an unstoppable motivation to win cycling races. It’s very much a once in a lifetime season”, Patrick Lefevere said looking back on this campaign which will linger for a long time in the memory bank.
Quick-Step Floors’ CEO continued: “Topping the UCI World Tour Team Classification for the first time since the inception of our squad, with a total of over 13 000 points and such a hefty advantage, is a culmination of all these things I have just mentioned and an achievement that gives me great pride.”
