Dries Devenyns was the top finisher for Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team at the 194 km La Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, finishing in 36th place.
The race came down to the final ascension of the 1300m Mur de Huy, a 9.3% average gradient climb with steep ramps of more than 20 percent. Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda) and Lars Petter Nordhaug (Sky Procycling) attacked the peloton with slightly less than 9km to go and had a 13" gap when they began climbing the Mur. However, the peloton charged behind them up the climb, and Joaquin Rodriguez attacked at a slightly flatter section of the Mur as they were being reeled in. Rodriguez had multiple bike lengths, and managed to hold his power over the top for the victory.
Michael Albasini (GreenEDGE Cycling Team) was 2nd, and Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team) was 3rd.
