| Thursday 10 January 2019 - 16:05

The incident occurred while the 35-year-old was training in his native Argentina.

Maximiliano Richeze, a winner of nearly 30 wins at pro level and one of the best lead-out men in the peloton, was cycling near Buenos Aries while preparing for the forthcoming Vuelta a San Juan (January 27-February 3), his first race of the season, when he was involved in an incident with a car.

Initial medical evaluations revealed that his injuries are not serious, with some trauma to the right knee and abrasions on the hip, back and elbow on the right side. However, on medical advice, he will visit a hospital on Friday for a precautionary scan, with the hope that he will be given the all clear.

Everybody at Deceuninck – Quick-Step wishes Maximiliano a speedy recovery!
