The young Colombian will continue with the most successful team of the last decade.
One of the standout neo-pros of the 2018 season, Alvaro Hodeg has agreed on a new contract with Deceuninck – Quick-Step, which will see him ride for the current World Tour Champions until at least the end of the 2021 season.
In 2018, Alvaro made the step to the World Tour and didn’t waste any time in showcasing his qualities, getting off the mark at Handzame Classic – which he won with a powerful and impressive sprint – before going on to pick four more victories, three of which came at World Tour level, in the Volta a Catalunya, Tour of Poland and Tour of Turkey.
“I am very happy to have extended my contract with Deceuninck – Quick-Step. I am proud to be part of this team which gave me the opportunity to turn pro and who put their trust in me. It’s a dream to stay here and continue my development and I hope to be able to repay the confidence of the team with victories and help them remain one of the best in the world. Deceuninck – Quick-Step is the perfect team for a rider like me, because sprinting is in their DNA and they know how to help me become better”, 22-year-old Alvaro said after putting pen to paper.
Deceuninck – Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere was happy with retaining the services of Alvaro, who is currently riding Vuelta a San Juan, where three days ago he notched up his first podium of the season: “When Alvaro came into the team, we knew we had a real talent on our hands, a rider who had what it takes to make a name for himself and become one of the best sprinters in the peloton. He is still learning and needs to improve, but the results he’s got so far serve as proof of his undeniable qualities, which we will continue to carefully nurture over the next years.”
