The 22-year-old Dutchman will have to wait for his Northern Classics debut.
Deceuninck – Quick-Step can confirm that Fabio Jakobsen will not be taking to the start line at the 71st Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne due to illness and will be replaced by Pieter Serry for Sunday’s race.
The team’s doctors will review Fabio’s progress in the coming days and make an assessment on his participation in GP Samyn on Tuesday, with a view to having him fully fit for the start of Paris-Nice.
“The Race to the Sun” kicks off next week with a flat stage around Saint-Germain-en-Laye, one of the three opportunities Fabio – victorious this season on the opening day of the Volta ao Algarve – and the other fast men of the peloton will have at the 77th edition of the French race.
