Bob Jungels remains our team’s best placed rider in the overall standings.
Stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia included Madonna del Ghisallo, Colma di Sormano and Civiglio – the three famous climbs which every year stand in the way of those gunning for glory in Il Lombardia, the season’s final Monument. On Sunday, these final 70 kilometers witnessed two different battles, one for the stage – which was won by Dario Cataldo (Astana), from the break – and one between the maglia rosa contenders, who launched several attacks on the last ascent in an attempt to open gaps.
Bob Jungels showed character and battled through to the line in Como – which returned after more than three decades on the race – finishing again as the highest-ranked Deceuninck – Quick-Step rider. With one week to go – and several tough stages between here and Verona – the Luxembourg Champion moved up three places in the general classification.
Monday is a rest day at the Giro d’Italia, with the race set to resume with the tough stage 16 between Lovere and Ponte di Legno, which will feature an ascent of the arduous Mortirolo (11.9 kilometers, 10.9%).
