Deceuninck – Quick-Step will line up six riders for the Belgian Road Race on Sunday.
Pieter Serry will be forced to skip the Belgian Championships held in Gent, due to a viral upper airway infection which will prevent him from racing on Sunday and will require some rest before restarting again with an altitude training camp, next month.
“I am really disappointed that I can’t be there for my teammates. I love the Nationals, it’s always a great race and I was looking forward to it, hoping to help my team fight for the jersey. I will now rest for a few days and then go on an altitude training camp in Livigno, where I will work hard to be in form for the second part of the season, when I want to be there again for Deceuninck – Quick-Step and contribute to the squad’s success”, Pieter explained.
So far this year, Serry has amassed 45 racing days, half of which he spent at the season’s first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia, where he animated the race from the break on several occasions, twice finishing inside the top 10.
