The 24-year-old crashed in the closing part of Monday’s stage 3.
One of the 30-odd riders to make their debut at the Tour de France this year, Kasper Asgreen has already had an impressive start to the race, spending an incredible amount of time at the front of the peloton in the first two road stages and contributing to the team’s top 3 finish in the Brussels TTT.
Unfortunately for the young Dane – a stage winner earlier this season at the Tour of California and National Time Trial Champion – it wasn’t all roses in the opening week of the race, as Kasper crashed inside the final kilometres of Monday’s stage, hitting a traffic sign. After getting a new bike, he soldiered on and concluded the stage, before being transported to the hospital for further examinations.
Deceuninck – Quick-Step’s medical staff will continue to monitor Asgreen overnight and a final decision on his further participation in the race will be taken Tuesday morning.
