The young Colombian was in the mix on the opening day of Adriatica Ionica Race, our last race of the month.

The second edition of the Adriatica Ionica Race kicked off on Wednesday with an evening criterium held over a 2.7km-long circuit set to be covered in Mestre, one of the six boroughs of the Venice commune. Several riders bolted away following a hectic start to the race, but the teams interested in keeping things together, including Deceuninck – Quick-Step, didn’t give them too much leeway.

With around seven kilometers to go, the bunch was again as one, but a few men didn’t agree with this and tried to spice things up, only to be reeled in ahead of the penultimate lap. Alvaro Hodeg, who was making his first outing in four weeks, was there for our team and came a close second, being pipped on the line by Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain-Merida).

On Thursday, the race will continue with a flat 189km stage between Favaro Veneto and Grado, which should come down to a bunch gallop, that is if the six dirt road sectors sprinkled over the route won’t end up impacting in the outcome.
