Keisse and Cavendish combined perfectly as they continued to fight at the famed event, giving local fans something to cheer about.
The Six Days of Gent resumed on Wednesday evening, when Iljo Keisse and Mark Cavendish – who are teaming up on the track for the first time in five years – received a thunderous welcome from a packed ‘t Kuipke, who showed their unwavering passion and support to the Maes 0.0% – The Wolfpack, one of the strongest squads going for overall victory at this year’s edition.
A seven-time winner of the race, 36-year-old Iljo Keisse sent the fans into rapture when he powered to a spectacular victory in the super sprint, a result to which Mark Cavendish added almost immediately, as the Brit came out on top in the second and last Derny of the evening thanks to a perfect tactic deployed in the closing laps.
Their efforts, combined with some strong placings in the other races, helped the Maes 0.0% – The Wolfpack team stay within touching distance of the current leaders, only a handful of points and a lap separating the duo from the top of the standings with four days remaining.
