The 20-year-old Belgian suffered multiple injuries during Saturday’s Il Lombardia.
One of the favourites at the start of the season’s second Monument, Remco Evenepoel crashed inside the last 50 kilometers, on the descent of Muro di Sormano, hitting a bridge wall and going over it into a ravine. Placed into a precautionary neck brace and taken to the Como hospital by ambulance, Remco was conscious at all times as he underwent a series of examinations to reveal the extent of his injury.
Unfortunately, the X-rays showed a fractured pelvis and a right lung contusion, which will keep Evenepoel – a winner of four stage races this season – on the sidelines for the upcoming period. Our rider will remain in the hospital overnight under observation, before flying on Sunday to Belgium.
More information about his condition and time of recovery will be released Sunday.

We would like to inform you that Remco Evenepoel had a quiet night at the hospital and that the evolution of his condition is good. Due to the nature of the injury, Remco has to be transported by plane to Belgium in a supine position.
The team is doing everything possible to bring him back home as soon as possible, hopefully in the next twenty-four hours, in the most efficient and safe way.

Additional examinations in the AZ Sint-Elisabeth hospital in Herentals have not revealed any new elements. As suggested earlier, Remco Evenepoel’s fractures in the pelvis will be treated conservatively, meaning surgery is not necessary. Remco will need to rest as much as possible in the coming weeks to allow his fractures to heal.
