Sam Bennett will lead the charge for the Wolfpack at Wednesday’s race.

Most successful team of this century in Scheldeprijs – having won it six times with three different riders – Deceuninck – Quick-Step will line out at the start of the 108th edition with the goal of being again in the mix. Due to the circumstances, the 173.3km race will be held entirely in Belgium, on a flat circuit around Schoten, which only the presence of rain could spice up.

Best sprinter at this year’s Tour de France, where he captured two stage victories and the iconic green jersey, Sam Bennett will be in action for the Wolfpack at Scheldeprijs, just his second race since his career-defining moment on the Champs-Élysées. The Irishman will rely on a very strong team comprising New Zealand Champion Shane Archbold, Yves Lampaert, Michael Mørkøv, Gent-Wevelgem runner-up Florian Sénéchal, neo-pro Jannik Steimle, and Bert Van Lerberghe.

“This year’s Scheldeprijs will consist of a local circuit with no cobblestones, meaning it will almost certainly end up in a mass sprint. We have a strong and experienced team, capable of controlling and shaping the race. Sam is our leader and we’re confident he can get a good result on Wednesday, especially as he’ll count on a solid lead-out, which includes Shane and Michael, who did such a great job in guiding him at the Tour”, said Deceuninck – Quick-Step sports director Wilfried Peeters.
