The Belgian youngster will pull on the team’s jersey in a couple of weeks’ time.
Stan Van Tricht will join the most successful team in the world as a trainee this summer and participate together with the Wolfpack in several stage races until the end of the season. The Belgian, who will turn 22 in September, has had a very impressive season so far, racking up eleven top 10 placing in a host of races, from the Circuit de Wallonie and Ronde van Limburg – where he competed against the pros – to the Girobio and the U23 National ITT Championships.
Hailing from a small town near Leuven, where this year’s World Championships will conclude, Stan – who is also a student of bio-engineering – started cycling at the age of nine, but was an avid fan since the age of six, one of his earliest memories of the sport being Tom Boonen’s triumph at the World Championships in Madrid, back in 2005.
“I am very excited to race with Deceuninck – Quick-Step, a team I have admired for a long time now and which is always getting big results in the races I like the most, the Classics. I am a puncheur, I like the hilly races and can handle a demanding parcours, as shown by my results so far. That makes races like Amstel Gold Race or Brabantse Pijl very appealing to me. But I like cycling not only for the feeling it gives you when you’re on the bike, but also because you get to discover so many races, countries and cultures, which is really beautiful. That’s another reason that makes me so happy that I will race with this team”, a delighted Stan said.
