The 25-year-old German rider has signed a contract until the end of 2023.
Jannik Steimle is the latest rider to have extended his agreement with Deceuninck – Quick-Step, the team for which he turned pro at the beginning of 2020 following a short but successful spell as a stagiaire.
Winner of the Tour of Slovakia in his first year with the Wolfpack, the German unfortunately had a rockier second season in the pro ranks, due to a crash in Nokere Koerse that kept him on the sidelines. After making his return to racing, he gradually found his way back to a good shape, which saw him play an important part in the team’s success at the Danmark Rundt, where he took fifth in the final stage individual time trial.
“I’m more than happy. After my crash in the spring I was really nervous about the situation. Patrick always gave me the confidence to stay calm and kept believing in me. With my victory last year in the Tour of Slovakia and a podium in stage 15 of La Vuelta, the team already knew what I’m able to do when I’m in good shape. Also the last couple of weeks I showed I’m nearly back at the level I had before my crash. I still have some goals this year, starting with the Deutschland Tour, where I’ll be riding in my home area. The dream continues for another two years”, said an excited Steimle.
Deceuninck – Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere never had any doubts about the potential of the German rider: “Jannik has several qualities, he can ride a good time trial, he can sprint and can be seen as an all-rounder. He had a setback after the crash in Nokere Koerse, but he fought back and showed in the latest races he’s there again to go for his own chance or to help the team. We are happy to continue with him and to help him improve even more.”
