The Danish ITT Champion moved onto the overall podium of the competition.

Kasper Asgreen finished fourth in the Benelux Tour individual time trial, ran over an 11.1km flat course starting and finishing in Lelystad. A solid ride and a time of 12:29 at the finish netted the seventh top 10 of the season in a race against the clock for the powerful Dane, who enjoyed a surge up the rankings, where he now sits in second place.

“Things went as expected today. I had decent legs out there, didn’t feel bad, but also not exceptional. I moved up a couple of positions in the general classification and put some time into some of the other guys, which is good considering the stages we’ll have in the weekend. I look forward to what’s next here at the Benelux Tour”, Kasper said after his effort.

Winner of two individual time trials this season, at the Belgium Tour and Danmark Rundt, Remco Evenepoel was one of the pre-race favourites, but his hopes of getting a good result Tuesday afternoon vanished due to stomach problems which saw him finish 39 seconds behind the winner despite his best efforts to limit the losses.

“I woke up today with stomach problems and couldn’t eat anything until one hour before the time trial, so I didn’t have an optimal preparation. The first three kilometers were ok, but then the legs just ran out as I didn’t take enough energy during the day. Now we will take it day by day and see how I feel together with the team doctor and how my condition will be”, an upbeat Remco explained after the stage.
