The Colombian is two seconds off the overall lead going into the last stage.
Alvaro Hodeg came close to his fourth podium in as many days at the Tour of Slovakia, mere centimeters separating him from a top 3 finish in Povazska Bystrica, which would have helped him retain the yellow jersey he is wearing since his stage 1 victory in Kosice.
The finale was again a tricky one, but the 25-year-old navigated it with the help of his Deceuninck – Quick-Step teammates, who kept him in a prime position after bringing back the breakaway. Alvaro launched his sprint with 150 meters to go, but despite a strong burst of speed, he concluded only fourth, which meant he missed out on the bonifications.
Only the second Colombian rider in history to win a stage at the Tour of Slovakia, Hodeg remains in contention and will have another chance of taking home the general classification at this 65th edition of the race, Sunday, when the peloton will arrive in Trnava.
