A balanced squad will be at the start of the event which we won in 2015 and 2019.
Scheduled this Sunday, the 188.5km Münsterland Giro has a slightly undulated course, but on paper that shouldn’t prevent the sprinters from fighting for victory at the end of the day, that is if the weather won’t decide to spoil the fast men’s party, as it has happened several times since the inception of the race.
One of the best sprinters of the season, with nine victories under his belt, Mark Cavendish will be at the start of the German one-day race for the first time in four years, together with a very strong Deceuninck – Quick-Step team. Winner here in 2019, Alvaro Hodeg will also be present in what will be his final outing for the Wolfpack, with Czech ITT Champion Josef Cerny, Ian Garrison, Iljo Keisse, Stijn Steels and stagiaire Stan Van Tricht rounding out the squad for the 77th edition of the race.
“Most of the time it’s a bunch sprint at the Münsterland Giro, but this year there is a strong chance of having a tough race with crosswinds, which could complicate matters. Mark and Alvaro are our two men in case it comes down to a mass gallop, and they will be surrounded by experienced riders, who can control the race, so we are quite confident in our chances of getting a good result”, said Deceuninck – Quick-Step sports director Geert Van Bondt.
