The Wolfpack is ready for a new appointment.
One of the oldest one-day races in the world, Binche-Chimay-Binche will mark our team’s final outing on home turf this season, one which saw us record so far 64 UCI victories with 18 different riders.
Held over a 198.6km-long course, Tuesday’s event will follow its now traditional pattern, which will hit the climax on the local circuit, that is set to be tackled several times. Featuring a short uphill section and some cobblestones to spice up things, that’s where the race is expected to come to life and the attacks to start flying from the peloton.
Tour de France green jersey Mark Cavendish – who last weekend won the Münsterland Giro in spectacular fashion – and Vuelta a España green jersey Fabio Jakobsen will race together for the first time since April’s Tour of Turkey, where our team captured four victories. Joining the two riders who between them racked up seven Grand Tour stages this season will be Josef Cerny, Ian Garrison, Stijn Steels, Jannik Steimle and Stan Van Tricht.
“Binche is always an exciting race, especially with the local circuit, where you get a lot of turns and changes of pace, and which could be harder than usual if we’ll have bad weather. It’s the end of the season, but we are still motivated and come to the start with several options, including Mark and Fabio, who have both shown a good condition the past couple of weeks”, said Deceuninck – Quick-Step sports director Rik Van Slycke.
