A 90 km circuit race is the final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under. The 20 lap, 4km circuit course includes SKODA King of the Mountain points at the 42.5 km and 64 km points of the race. There are also sprint points at the 36 km and 54 km marks. The circuit race starts at 1:10 p.m. CST, which is approximately two hours later than previous stages. The estimated duration of the race is about two hours. The battle for the Santos Tour Down Under Ochre Leader's Jersey comes down to the final stage. Simon Gerans (Green Edge Cycling Team) and Alejandro Valverde have the same general classification (GC) time, with others riders in the top ten within 12 seconds of the lead.
Gerald Ciolek is the highest up on the GC rankings for Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling team, in 13th place (+47 seconds).
