Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl riders Davide Ballerini and Jannik Steimle were involved in the crash at the end of Wednesday’s stage two of Vuelta a Burgos.
Both have been assessed by the team’s medical staff following injuries incurred in the incident that took place inside the final kilometer of the stage that finished in Villadiego.
Unfortunately, Jannik has broken his right collarbone and will leave the race. Thursday, he will travel to Herentals, where he will be operated on. No timeline has yet been set for his recovery.
Davide has suffered abrasions in several places and a haematoma to his right gluteus. He will be assessed Thursday morning and a decision will be made on his further participation in the race.
