Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s stagiaire was involved in a crash during stage 3 of the Vuelta a Burgos, which brought his race to an end.
Simone Raccani sustained a fracture in his left wrist, multiple abrasions, and deep cuts to his left arm and right hand. He is currently being treated in the hospital in Burgos, where he will receive stitches and his wrist will be placed in a cast, before travelling to Herentals Friday for further treatment.
Running between Quintana Martin Galindez and Villarcayo, the 156km stage belonged to a breakaway, which managed to hold off the peloton despite the presence of the Picon Blanco climb on the course. Ilan Van Wilder concluded the day with the bunch, in sixth place, and remains Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s best placed rider in the general classification, where he sits tenth, just two seconds from the podium.
