The 23-year-old finished close to the top 10 at the Belgian one-day race.
Druivenkoers Overijse welcomed the riders Wednesday afternoon with a testing 192km course which contained plenty of narrow roads, tight corners, and top it all, twenty-two hills, the last of which was to be crested just a couple of kilometers from the finish.
Victorious here at the past two editions, our team came at the start with big expectations, but was hit by bad luck on the last lap, with around 24 kilometers to go, when Davide Ballerini – one of the Wolfpack’s cards for the finale, who had been very active up until that point – crashed and abandoned, fortunately without any major consequences.
On the Moskesstraat, where the big attacks came and the peloton fragmented, Andrea Bagioli came very close to making it in the front group that emerged over the top and from where the day’s winner, Matis Louvel (Arkea Samsic), emerged. The Italian remained prominent in the chasing group, who missed out on catching the Frenchman for just a couple of seconds, and took a solid 13th place at the finish, a result which bodes well for his next races.
