Soudal Quick-Step to the Tour of Hungary

The 44th edition will take place between 10-14 May.

Fabio Jakobsen returns at the start of the Tour of Hungary, where last year he clocked up two stage wins and the points jersey, and the European Champion will aim to be again among the protagonists on the three days expected to come down to a bunch sprint: Szentgotthard, Keszthely and Budapest, the country’s capital.

But the general classification will be, just like last year, an affair between the climbers, who’ll have the back-to-back uphill finishes in Pecs and Dobogoko (where the gradients exceed 10%) as favourite playground.

Joining the 26-year-old Jakobsen on the start line this Wednesday will be Tim Declercq, Yves Lampaert, Fausto Masnada, Michael Mørkøv – who is making his comeback after being sidelined with knee problems in the past couple of weeks – and Figueira Champions Classic winner Casper Pedersen.

“We have a solid team for Hungary. Fabio will go for the bunch sprints, where he will rely on Michael, who we are happy to have back in action, and Casper, but also on Tim and Yves to control things. On the two stages featuring climbs, Fausto will be our man and try to do something. Overall, we are confident in our chances to get good results this week”, said Soudal Quick-Step sports director Wilfried Peeters.
